2040 Mercedes-Benz Streamliner Concept Blurs Lines Between Automobile & Aircraft
Mercedes-Benz is certainly no stranger to concept vehicles, showing off a number of extraordinary models throughout the years. The latest Mercedes-Benz concept, however, blurs the lines between automobile and aircraft and is perhaps the most visually stunning concept model Mercedes-Benz of Owings Mills has ever seen.
It’s called the 2040 Mercedes-Benz Streamliner concept,and it takes inspiration from the manufacturer’s 1955 W196R race car.
Like the Mercedes-Benz W196R, which looked to World War II fighter planes for its design, the elegant Streamliner concept has ties with more modern machines of flight. Indeed, the concept is not propelled by a traditional internal combustion engine but rather by a dual jet engine power system.
Naturally, the Streamliner concept boasts exceptional and exquisite design. Its low profile hints at a vehicle that handles supremely under extreme duress while its snug cabin reduces air resistance and underlines its purpose as a performance-focused vehicle.
Designed by South Korean designer Minwoong Im, the 2040 Streamliner will not be seen on roads anytime soon. Like most concept cars, it serves as inspiration for manufacturers and designers to see where and how they can push the boundaries of automotive design.
